Chapter 1

Paul introduces the reason for writing to all the saints in Rome, Jews and Gentiles alike. He then begins to lay out the reason for God’s plan of salvation, that all are sinful.

Chapter 2

Paul cautions the Jews about judging others because only God can judge righteously, then explains how the gentiles can be more just living by the law of their conscience than Jews trying to live by the Moses law.

Chapter 3

Jews may have an advantage by having the oracles of God, but both Jews and gentiles are sinful and guilty before God and need to be justified by the same law of faith.

Chapter 4

Paul describes the faith of Abraham and how God counted that to him as righteousness before he was circumcised. Anyone with that same faith, regardless of background can receive the same promise of eternal life.

Chapter 5

Death comes through sin and is exposed by the law, justification comes through faith in the grace of christ.

Chapter 6

Paul recognizes the Roman christians had been crucified with christ and died to sin so they shouldn’t serve sin any longer, but be servants to righteousness.

Chapter 7

The purpose of the law is to reveal sin, but sin takes advantage of the law to condemn those trying to live by it.

Chapter 8

Paul explains that we are justified by the law of life if we live in that law rather than the law of sin and death and we are thereby heirs of God and live in the hope of our calling of God.

Chapter 9

Paul laments the fact that not all of Israel would believe the spiritual promises of God because many continue to believe they can be saved by the works of the law.

Chapter 10

Paul explains that anyone can be saved by hearing and believing the message of salvation whether or not they are an Israelite.

Chapter 11

God will always have a remnant who are willing to follow him and he can use the conversion of gentiles to provoke the Jews who haven’t moved on from the law to believe the gospel.

Chapter 12

Paul cautions his readers not to think too much of themselves because God has distributed to each person the gifts necessary according to their measure of faith.

Chapter 13

Willingly be subject to ministers whom God has placed to care for his people, in fact, have love toward all men and live righteously.

Chapter 14

Paul gives many examples of differences between believers to make the point that we should not judge one another nor cause another to stumble.

Chapter 15

Paul lifts up Jesus as the example of how we should treat others, then turns his attention to his own ministry and desire to come to them after visiting Jerusalem.

Chapter 16

Paul ends his letter with a long list of greetings to various ministers and members of the churches in Rome.
