1 Peter

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: – 1 Peter 1:7 (KJV)

Chapter 1

Since the coming of christ the salvation that was foretold by the prophets is available but will be tried. Peter explains that we are to resist temptations and become holy as God is holy.

Chapter 2

Peter describes believers as being strangers and pilgrims on the earth. He encourages us to follow the example of christ and be submissive to all those in authority with a good conscience.

Chapter 3

Peter encourages wives to submit to husbands that they will be persuaded by their godly example. He explains that suffering will come but it is better to suffer for doing right as Christ did.

Chapter 4

Continuing his theme of suffering for christ’s sake Peter explains that it is better to suffer for righteousness than unrighteousness because judgment will come regardless.

Chapter 5

Peter finishes his letter by instructing church leaders to feed God’s flock with the right motive and provide a godly example for them to follow.
